What is Green Building?
Green building is a catch-all phrase used to describe environmentally friendly construction. It includes many different aspects of the home, from planting shade trees to save energy to installing water efficient plumbing. But, while green building is driven by a desire to reduce the environmental impact of your home, it's also good for you.
Green homes consider your pocketbook. They cost less to heat, cool and maintain, and—if you ever decide to sell—they're usually worth more.
Green homes consider your health. Because they're built to minimize chemicals, mold and other harmful substances, they protect you and your family from exposure.
Green homes are quality homes. They're built for durability, so they require less maintenance.
Buy a home that's good for you and the environment: buy green.
What is the Northeast Ohio GBI?
The Northeast Ohio Green Building Initiative (NEOGBI) is a voluntary residential green building certification program developed by the home building associations of Northeast Ohio and the Green Building Initiative to promote and facilitate practical approaches to green construction. Our program is also an affiliate of the National Green Building Program (www.nahbgreen.org).
The NEOGBI serves as an education, marketing, and certification resource for the green building industry-to help build and sell energy efficient and environmentally sustainable homes or building-related products and services
Our program is based on the National Association of Home Builders Green Home Building Guidelines and the recently ANSI approved National Green Building Standard.
Third-party verification is fundamental to the rating system and assures homeowners that the project performs as designed. The rating system is supported by education programs for architects, designers, builders and remodelers, as well as general education for homeowners, lenders, real estate agents, and public officials.
Our Members
Membership is comprised of builders, developers, architects, engineers, interior designers, construction professionals, real estate professionals, building owners / operators, built environment suppliers, real estate / construction attorneys and green building advocates.
